IF YOU DO NOT SEE MP4 FILES:

WINDOWS: download Quicktime player from Apple site

MAC OS X, UNIX and LINUX: any system should play them by default.

IF YOU DO NOT SEE XVID OR DX50 FILES:

WINDOWS: download codec pack from FreeCodec site. Take the "Full Version" and install it like any other computer program. It includes "Media Player Classic" which is probably better than your old media player.

However, after this about any other media player will playback any media file with no problems.

Bsplayer, for example, is another good player with clean interface.

Avoid players with gaudy interfaces like the recent ones from Microsoft: they will eat your resources and will not work oftentimes.

For brave souls we recommend absolutely the best one: Mplayer.

MAC OS X, UNIX and LINUX: download and install Mplayer.
